Florida’s 9th Congressional District (FL-09)
Updated: September 18, 2024
Overview
Darren Soto is a fighter for Central Florida families in Congress who will work with anyone to deliver results for Central Floridians and is working with Republicans and Democrats in Congress to get things done. Thomas Chalifoux is a millionaire MAGA extremist who is only out for himself and will do whatever it takes to get ahead, even when it's at the expense of our community.
Summary
Voters need to see on Orlando Broadcast, Orange County and Osceola County Cable, digital, and mail that Thomas Chalifoux is a dangerous Republican whose out-of-touch beliefs will hurt Central Florida families.
Thomas Chalifoux regularly criticizes "wasteful spending" in government, but had no problem giving himself a raise while on the Osceola School Board.
Thomas Chalifoux is backed by Republicans extremists, like those pushing project 2025, who support government intervention in people's private healthcare decisions. They want to ban abortion nationwide, restrict access to IVF, and support government surveillance of pregnant women.
Thomas Chalifoux criticized “excessive stimulus packages,” but then turned around and accepted over $160,000 in PPP loans funded by those stimulus payments, which were forgiven. Now, thousands of small business owners are still paying back their loans and struggling to make ends meet while Chalifoux rakes in millions in income.
Voters – particularly Independents, Hispanic voters and voters in Osceola County – need to see Osceola county cable, digital ads and receive mail that communicates the following about Darren Soto:
Darren Soto has delivered high paying microchip and clean energy jobs to the district as well as federal funding to expand I-4, Orlando International Airport and SunRail.
Darren Soto has fought to make sure the hundreds of thousands of Floridians protected by the Affordable Care Act continue to have access to the affordable health insurance they need. Soto has even fought to expand coverage for more Floridians.
Darren Soto believes that reproductive health decisions should be between a woman and her doctor, not the government.
Darren Soto has fought to reduce the price of prescription drugs and cap the prices of life-saving drugs like insulin and other out-of-pocket costs.
Darren Soto helped pass a bipartisan law to combat gun violence and believes that we need to close loopholes allowing gun sales without background checks to stop tragedies like in Pulse and Parkland.
Darren Soto supported a bipartisan border bill in Congress because he knows how important it is to secure the border while working to fix our broken immigration system.
