Sign the Petition: No More Raids on Social Security!
Sending our kids to college shouldn’t be a debt sentence.
As the price of college tuition continues to soar, more and more young people rely on their parents or grandparents to co-sign their student loans. And as job opportunities are scarce in our recovering economy, more and more college graduates struggle with paying back their debt. These things happen.
This is where it gets twisted: When college graduates miss their monthly payments, the federal government can raid their co-signers’ Social Security benefits to pay back the debt. These raids damage our working families’ fragile financial security, and they’ve got to stop. It’s time to take action: Sign my petition right now to tell Congress to stop these raids on Social Security benefits!
There was a time when it was against the law to garnish Social Security benefits to repay loans. Now, more than 150,000 Americans are having their benefits garnished to pay back expensive student loans – leaving our seniors and working families struggling to afford basic necessities like food, housing, and health care.
In Congress, I will stand up for our working families and fight to protect earned Social Security benefits. Together, we can fix this. Join me in this fight: Sign my petition right now to tell Congress to stop garnishing Social Security benefits!
